A Message from our Executive Director
Dear Minds Matter Houston Community,
As the early September breeze carries us into a new academic season, I find myself filled with an incredible sense of anticipation and purpose. In our seasonal calendar, Summer is our time for "Planting the Seeds". It is a time when we recruit the next generation of bright minds, onboard the passionate professionals who will guide them, and gather the critical financial resources required to fully underwrite their dreams. Today, we stand at the precipice of our high-stakes Fall semester, and I am writing to issue a personal "Last Call" to our Houston community. We need your presence, your passion, and your partnership to help us cultivate a harvest of success for our incoming Sophomore Class of 2029.
The Heart of the Mission: The Three-Year Commitment
In the coming weeks, we will formally welcome our newest cohort of high-achieving high school sophomores. These students are signing up for a three-year journey that is nothing short of extraordinary: dedicating 4.5 hours every single Saturday of the school year to academic excellence, SAT preparation, writing workshops, and social-emotional growth. That is over 100 hours of rigorous programming annually, completely free of charge to their families.
But we cannot ask these ambitious teens to make this leap alone. At Minds Matter Houston, we believe that potential is universal, but opportunity is not. To bridge this gap, we pair every single scholar with a team of co-mentors—passionate local professionals who serve as guides, sounding boards, and advocates.
Operating as a small, entirely volunteer-run chapter means we have a physical bottleneck. While we maintain a proud 100% college acceptance, enrollment, and graduation rate, our current cohort sizes are limited. We have the framework, the curriculum, and the national backing of a movement that began in 1991. What we need now to scale our impact and welcome a larger Class of 2029 is you. We are looking for local professionals from all industries—from energy and healthcare to tech and finance—who are ready to give up their Saturday afternoons to change a life.
Fueling the Future: Join Us at City Cellars HTX
Of course, planting these seeds of success is only half the equation; we must also nurture them. Because Minds Matter Houston is a 100% volunteer-led organization, over 90% of our annual budget goes directly into our student programming—covering SAT testing materials, weekly meals, and fully underwriting their summer residential programs at prestigious institutions like Harvard and Yale.
To fund this next chapter of our growth, we are hosting our second annual benefit, Fueling Futures 2026, on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM at the gorgeous City Cellars HTX.
This evening will be a stunning celebration of community, complete with breathtaking views of the Houston skyline, an open bar, delicious hors d'oeuvres, live comedy by Houston ComedySportz, and inspiring stories directly from our scholars. Most importantly, it is the financial engine that funds our Class of 2029.
The deadline to lock in Early Bird ticket pricing is September 10, 2026. Whether you choose to volunteer your time on Saturdays, purchase a ticket to join us at City Cellars HTX, or make a direct tax-deductible donation to fund our Saturday Program, you are making a direct, multi-generational impact on educational equity in Houston.
