Minds Matter Houston is thrilled to announce our second annual benefit, Fueling Futures 2026, taking place on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM at the stunning City Cellars HTX. Get ready to enjoy breathtaking views of the Houston skyline, an open bar with hearty hors d'oeuvres, hilarious live improv comedy by Houston ComedySportz, and a silent auction featuring exclusive local experiences. Most importantly, the evening will feature an inspiring, first-hand scholar story that showcases the true power of your investment.
This event is more than a celebration—it is the financial engine that allows us to recruit, onboard, and fully fund our upcoming sophomore cohort, the Class of 2029. Nationally, the opportunity gap remains stark: only 17% of low-income students graduate from college. Minds Matter Houston completely rewrites this narrative, maintaining a proud 100% college acceptance, enrollment, and graduation rate for our scholars. To keep this "Minds Matter Magic" alive and expand our reach to more deserving students across Houston, we must secure the sustainable financial resources necessary to power our weekly Saturday Sessions, SAT prep materials, and fully underwritten summer college programs.
A Pivotal Moment in Our Growth Cycle
Minds Matter Houston is at a critical turning point. We are proud to be part of a highly respected national movement for educational equity that began as a grassroots effort in 1991. Today, Minds Matter spans 14 chapters across the United States, providing a proven college-access pipeline for highly motivated, low-income students. Since we opened our doors in Houston in 2017, we have successfully guided dozens of local scholars to and through college.
However, we are also one of the last 100% volunteer-led chapters in the country. Because we have no full-time staff, we are incredibly efficient: over 90% of our annual budget goes directly to student programming. Every Saturday session, mentor coordination, and logistics plan is managed entirely by passionate local professionals in their spare time.
But this lean model has hit its capacity limit. Operating strictly on volunteer nights and weekends means we can currently only support small cohorts of students, like our Class of 2026 graduating cohort. Talent is everywhere in Houston, but opportunity is not. To scale our chapter, double our cohorts by 2030, and reach more high-achieving high schoolers who deserve a seat at the table, we must build stability in our leadership. Scaling effectively requires a new level of programmatic support, including incorporating dedicated operational roles to spearhead recruitment, build corporate partnerships, and streamline student success. We cannot achieve this long-term growth and leadership stability without your financial backing.
